Former Red Wings hockey star Sergei Federov says a suburban Detroit money manager has swindled him out of $43 million over the past 11 years.

Federov is set to file a lawsuit in Wayne County Circuit Court accusing financial adviser Joseph Zada of embezzlement, the Detroit Free Press reported Thursday.

Federov, who signed one of the most lucrative contracts in hockey history in 1998, says Zada agreed earlier this year to pay him $60 million to resolve the dispute but hasn’t followed through.

The lawsuit accuses Zada by deceit and fraud of working his way into Federov’s confidence.

The hockey player is described in the suit as a Russian-born individual who has limited knowledge of and experience in investment, legal and financial matters.

Zada has denied trying to scam Federov and has acknowledged agreeing to pay him $60 million.
