Complaint needed for assault investigation
Nevada authorities say they won't investigate sexual assault allegations against Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger unless there's a criminal complaint.
We're not going to independently launch an investigation into something we hear about, Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Teresa Duffy told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
An employee of Harrah's Lake Tahoe Resort has filed a civil suit against Roethlisberger accusing him of sexually assaulting her in his hotel room last year.
Until we get a complaint from her in this matter, we will not launch an investigation, Duffy said.
She disputed a statement by the woman's attorney that discussing the incident with the security force at the resort was the same as reporting the incident to police.
Duffy says Harrah's security staff is authorized to make a citizen's arrest but is not trained to conduct a rape investigation.
