MLB: San Francisco 3, Colorado 1
Matt Cain and two relievers limited Colorado to four hits Friday, carrying the San Francisco Giants to a 3-1 victory over the Rockies.
The outcome left both teams with a record of 52-44, tied for the lead in the National League’s wild-card race.
Cain (12-2) did not allow a hit until the fifth and eventually gave up just three to go with four walks and five strikeouts. He owns the fourth-best ERA in the majors at 2.27.
Brian Wilson put two on with one out in the ninth, but got his 25th save when Troy Tulowitzki grounded into a game-ending double play.
Fred Lewis put the Giants in front by scoring from third on a double play off the bat of Bengie Molina in the fourth. Nate Schierholtz hit a solo homer later in the fourth and Molina singled in another run in the sixth.
The loss went to Jason Hammel (5-5), who allowed all three runs on seven hits in six innings.
