Contador wins second Tour de France
Spain’s Alberto Contador won his second Tour de France in three years Sunday as the race wrapped up its 21st and final phase in Paris.
Contador finished a comfortable 4 minutes, 11 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Andy Schleck of Luxembourg, while Contador’s Astana teammate, American Lance Armstrong, completed a nice comeback to finish third overall, 5 minutes, 24 seconds behind Contador, race officials said.
The 101-mile 21st phase, ending in a sprint along Paris’ Champs-Elysees, was won by British rider Mark Cavendish, who set a record among that country’s cyclists with his 10th win of a Tour de France stage, eclipsing the mark of Barry Hoban, The Guardian reported.
Another Briton, Bradley Wiggins, finished fourth in the overall standings.
