Phil Mickelson will not compete at this week’s Buick Open golf tournament at Grand Blanc, Mich.

He has not played since June 22 when he finished in a tie for second place at the U.S. Open at Farmingdale, N.Y., to be with his wife, Amy, and his mother, both of whom were diagnosed with breast cancer.

Amy Mickelson underwent surgery two weeks after the Open, and his mother is undergoing treatment.

Mickelson said Tuesday he will return for next week’s Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.

I have had a great six weeks at home, he said on his Web site. Things are going very well and I am excited about the opportunity to start playing some tournaments again.

The former Arizona State product has earned nearly $560,000 this season and won the Northern Trust Open at Pacific Palisades, Calif., in February and the WGC-CA Championship in Miami in March.
