Stewart to start last after wrecking car
Tony Stewart wrecked his car during qualifying and will start last Sunday at the Sprint Cup Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa.
Stewart was not injured, but his No.14 Chevrolet suffered significant right-side damage when it hit the wall in turn three on his second lap during the first morning practice session.
I screwed up, the Sprint Cup points leader said.
I got in too deep and got loose and couldn’t save it. I tore up a really good race car today.
He had been awarded the pole after rain forced cancellation of Friday’s qualifying session, but will drive a backup car during Sunday’s race.
The backup car is the same vehicle that led to an eighth-place finish at the Auto Club 500 in Fontana, Calif., in January and a third-place run at the Southern 500 in Darlington, S.C., in May.
