Catriona Matthew of Scotland won the Women’s British Open Sunday, finishing at 3-under-par 285, three shots ahead of three-time winner Karrie Webb.

Matthew closed with a 1-over 73 and Webb had a 68 for a total of 288 at Royal Lytham and St. Annes.

The victory was the first in an LPGA major for Matthew, who has won two other events on the tour.

Unbelievable, said Matthew, who played in just her second tournament since giving birth to her second child in May. It really just hasn’t sunk in yet.

Hee-Won Han (70), Paula Creamer (71), Ai Miyazato (73) and Christina Kim (74) tied for third place.

Defending champion Jiyai Shin shot a 75 to share eighth place at 3-over 291 and women’s world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa totaled 298 and ended up in a tie for 28th .
