Yang soars up men's world golf rankings

Y.E. Yang's PGA Championship victory vaulted him to 34th in the world men's golf rankings, which also had a shake-up in the bottom half of the top 10.

Yang beat Tiger Woods, the world's No. 1-ranked player, head-to-head Sunday in winning his first major victory and second PGA title. Yang opened the year ranked 478th in the world and began the PGA Championship in the 110th spot.

But after he won the championship by three strokes, he'd moved up another 76 places in the rankings.

Woods's hold on the No. 1 spot is tight. He's been the top-rated player in the world for the last 219 weeks and a total of 561 weeks in his career.

Phil Mickelson is ranked second ahead of No. 3 Paul Casey and fourth-ranked Kenny Perry.

Henrik Stenson, who finished tied for sixth at the PGA Championship, went from seventh to fifth in the latest rankings, pushing Steve Stricker down to sixth and Sergio Garcia to seventh.

Geoff Ogilvy kept the No. 8 place but Lee Westwood, who was tied for third at the PGA, improved from 13th to ninth with Stewart Cink, ninth a week ago, in the No. 10 spot.

Padraig Harrington, who has had 8s on holes that have taken him out of contention in the final round each of the last two weeks, fell out of the top 10 to No. 11.
