Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Tanard Jackson will miss the first four games of the 2009 season for violating the NFL substances abuse policy, the team said.
The Bucs reported Tuesday that Jackson, who will be able to participate in the remainder of the team's pre-season practices and games, will begin serving the suspension Sept. 5. He will be eligible to return to the active roster Oct. 5, one day after Tampa Bay's Week 4 game against Washington.
Jackson, 24, started all 16 games in each of his two pro seasons with the Bucs after being selected in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Syracuse. He had 69 tackles and one sack with two forced fumbles and an interception last season.
