Canada ‘ready’ for 2010 Olympics
Representatives of the International Olympic Committee declared the Vancouver and Whistler areas in British Columbia ready for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
The IOC's Coordination Commission, led by Rene Fasel, made its final visit to the site of the 2010 Games this week. The 2010 Winter Olympics are scheduled for Feb. 12-28. The Olympic torch run ahead of the Games is set to begin Oct. 30 on a course of more than 28,000 miles across Canada.
Fasel issued a statement at the close of his commission's trip to Canada and said,
We are extremely happy with what we have seen and heard. He also said,
The organizers of the Games in Vancouver and Whistler are ready for 2010.
The venues are spectacular and the plans for next February are very good, Fasel said.
The great venues, the outstanding natural setting and hugely knowledgeable and enthusiastic fans will guarantee that these Olympic and Paralympic Games will be an unparalleled success.
An IOC release said Coordination Commission members were given reports on sectors of the 2010 Olympics, including the torch relay, sports, spectator services, marketing and media operations.
