Seventeen-year-old Byeong-Hun An breezed to the U.S.Amateur Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Okla., Sunday, becoming the youngest winner of the event.

An routed Ben Martin 7 and 6.

I think it is pretty cool, An said. Like I’ve said a thousand times, I don’t think age matters in golf. But it’s a great title to have — the youngest winner.

The youngest winners previously, both at 18, were Tiger Woods and Danny Lee.

An, a Korean, said he was inspired by Y.E. Yang of Korea, who defeated Woods in the recent PGA Championship.

After Y.E. Yang won the PGA Championship, all of us, Koreans or Asians, we had a possibility to win majors or big tournaments like the U.S. Am, An said. It really inspired me. It was awesome.
