MLB: NY Yankees 10, Baltimore 2

CC Sabathia struck out nine over seven innings Wednesday and the New York Yankees broke the game open with a huge ninth inning to defeat Baltimore 10-2.

New York had only a 3-2 lead going into the ninth, but sent a dozen men to the plate in that inning. Derek Jeter and Johnny Damon each reached base twice in the inning and the Yankees had seven hits, all singles.

Alex Rodriguez had a two-run hit in the ninth. He went 3-for-5 in the game with four RBI and reached 2,500 hits for his career.

Sabathia (16-7) became the first American League pitcher to reach 16 victories. He allowed a run on seven hits in seven innings in New York's 10th straight win over Baltimore.

The Yankees have won six in a row overall and 23 of their last 29. Their lead over Boston in the American League East grew to 71/2 games.

Reliever Kam Mickolio (0-2) took the loss. He gave up a two-run single by Rodriguez in the seventh that put the Yankees in front.
