Iverson signs with Memphis Grizzlies
Veteran point guard Allen Iverson confirmed Wednesday in a message on Twitter that he has joined the Memphis Grizzlies.
Neither Iverson nor the Grizzlies disclosed details, but ESPN reported the 13-year veteran received a one-year deal worth $3.5 million.
The Commercial Appeal first reported Iverson’s signing Tuesday and said his contract is filled with incentives.
The nine-time NBA All-Star earned nearly $21 million while playing for Detroit and Denver last season.
I think Allen Iverson is going to be very fine with whatever role he would end up fulfilling here in Memphis, General Manager Chris Wallace told WHBQ-AM.
Iverson, a first-round pick by Philadelphia in the 1996 NBA Draft from Georgetown, has played in 886 career contests with per-game averages of 27.1 points, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals.
He was the NBA MVP in the 2000-01 season but played in just 54 games last season because of a back injury.
