Report: NBA referees face lockout

The NBA will start training camp next week with replacement referees after failed contract talks led to a lockout, Yahoo! Sports reported Friday.

NBA Referee's Association and the league were unable to come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement late Thursday, with the report saying the union believes NBA officials are asking for too many give- backs in their latest contract proposal.

It added the referees' union members voted 57-0 to reject the offer.

It is extremely disappointing that the NBRA has ignored the economic realities, rejected our offer, and left us with no choice but to begin using replacement referees, Rick Buchanan, the NBA's executive vice president and general counsel, said in a league memo Friday.

The NBA will use Developmental League and WNBA officials to start the pre-season.
