Charlie Morton and two relievers combined on a seven-hitter Friday, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 5-1 win over the San Diego Padres.


Morton (4-8) surrendered a run and six hits in seven innings.


Jesse Chavez pitched a scoreless eighth, and closer Matt Capps a scoreless ninth.


The key hit, a two-run triple by Brandon Moss, capped a three-run first.


Lastings Milledge and Andrew McCutchen had two hits and one RBI apiece for the Pirates, who had only seven hits, but broke their three-game losing streak.


San Diego’s run scored on a first-inning sacrifice fly by Adrian Gonzalez.


Everth Cabrera had three hits and Chase Headley two for the Padres, who have lost three of four.


San Diego starter, losing pitcher Tim Stauffer (4-7), yielded three runs, four hits and four walks in three innings.
