COL FB: N. Carolina 31, E. Carolina 17

T.J. Yates threw two first-half touchdown passes and Ryan Houston ran for two scores Saturday, fueling No. 24 North Carolina's 31-17 win over East Carolina.

Yates completed 19-of-24 passes for 227 yards with no interceptions.

Houston gained 41 yards on 12 carries. His one-yard touchdown run broke a 14-14 tie, putting UNC in front for good at 21-14 with 2:57 left in the first half. He scored on a 5-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

Erik Highsmith scored once on six catches for 113 yards, while Jheranie Boyd scored on a 59-yard pass reception for the Tar Heels (3-0), who have won five of their last six meetings against the Pirates.

ECU quarterback Patrick Pinkney went 19-for-30 for 157 yards and one touchdown.

Wide receiver Joe Womack caught four passes for 66 yards and Ben Hartman kicked a 22-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for the Pirates (1-2), who trail the all-time series 2-9-1.
