Danny Coale’s 81-yard catch with a minute to play set up Dyrell Roberts’ TD with 21 seconds left Saturday in Virginia Tech’s 16-15 win over Nebraska.
The win over No. 19 Nebraska was No. 14 Virginia Tech’s 32nd consecutive non-conference home victory.
Coale’s 81-yard reception catch accounted for nearly one-third of Virginia Tech’s 278 total yards of offense and most of the second-half yardage (141) for the Hokies (2-1).
Tyrod Taylor completed only 12-of-27 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown in the win. Ryan Williams ran for 107 yards and a TD on 21 carries and Coale led the Tech receivers with 89 yards on two catches.
Nebraska (2-1) could not score a touchdown with Alex Henery’s five field goals accounting for all the Cornhuskers’ points. Zac Lee connected on only 11-of-30 passes for 136 yards with two interceptions. Roy Helu Jr. rushed for 169 yards on 28 carries.
