Mick Fannings wins Trestles surf tourney
Australian Mick Fanning captured pro surfing's biggest prize this weekend by winning the $105,000 Hurley Pro Trestles in Southern California.
Fanning knocked off American Dane Reynolds in the finals at the Lower Trestles break in Huntington Beach and jumped from seventh to second place in the Association of Surfing Professionals rankings behind fellow Aussie Joel Parkinson.
The finals took place Saturday in respectable conditions following three consecutive lay days due to an overly placid Pacific.
The ASP World Tour moves on to Europe and the Quicksilver Pro France in Hossegor Sept. 23-Oct. 4.
