Posted on: Sunday, 20 September 2009, 18:46 CDT

Daniel Murphy and Wilson Valdez drove in two runs each Sunday, leading the New York Mets to a 6-2 win over Washington.

One of Murphy's two hits was a two-run third-inning double. Valdez hit a two-run eighth-inning triple.

Josh Thole and Carlos Beltran hit RBI singles. Angel Pagan had three hits, while Beltran and Luis Castillo had two hits each for the Mets, who won the last two contests in the three-game series.

Winner John Maine (6-5) gave up two hits in five scoreless innings.

Closer Francisco Rodriguez earned his 33rd save by quelling a ninth-inning Washington rally.

Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn had one RBI each for the Nationals, who had only five hits and have lost five of six.

The losing pitcher was starter Garrett Mock (3-9).

Washington is two losses shy of its second straight 100-loss season.
