Perry passes Woods for lead in 3rd round
Kenny Perry shot a 6-under 64 Saturday to move past second-round leader Tiger Woods and take the third-round lead of The Tour Championship.
Perry finished 54 holes at 8-under 202. He is two strokes ahead of Woods, who had a 69 on Saturday, in the final event of the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Woods leads the standings in the playoffs, and a win on Sunday would give Woods his second FedEx Cup title in three years. A victory for Perry doesn’t guarantee him the crown and its $10 million prize. Perry is ninth in the standings and to win the FedEx Cup, he has to win the Tour Championship and Woods must finish no better than a three-way tie for third.
I look forward to it. I’m going to jab him a little bit tomorrow, said Perry, a 14-time PGA Tour winner.
Everybody will kind of be figuring numbers and percentages, who falls where.
Phil Mickelson shot a 66 Saturday and climbed into a tie for third place with first-round leader Sean O’Hair (70) at 4-under 206.
Padraig Harrington (71), who played in Saturday’s final group with Woods, is tied for fifth place with Steve Marino (67) at 207.
