MLB: Detroit 6, Minnesota 5 (2nd game)
Magglio Ordonez and Brandon Inge each had two RBI Tuesday when the Detroit Tigers beat Minnesota 6-5 to split a doubleheader.
Minnesota won the first game 3-2 to close to within one game of Detroit in the American League Central race. Detroit’s win in the nightcap pushed its lead in the division back to two games.
Miguel Cabrera hit a solo home run, walked and scored twice and Curtis Granderson homered in the bottom of the eighth for the Tigers.
Justin Verlander (18-9) gave up four runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts and no walks in eight innings for the win.
Jason Kubel’s two-run double in the eighth cut the Tigers’ lead to 5-4.
Rookie Brian Duensing (5-2) allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings to take the loss.
