MLB: San Diego 3, Los Angeles Dodgers 1
Tony Gwynn had a solo home run and Heath Bell picked up his NL-leading 41st save Tuesday to help the San Diego Padres beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1.
The Dodgers’ magic number for clinching the NL West title remained at one. The second-place Colorado Rockies beat Milwaukee 7-5 in 11 innings Tuesday.
Six Padres’ pitchers combined to hold the Dodgers to four hits. Ryan Webb (2-0) picked up the win in relief and Bell struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth to get the save.
Kevin Kouzmanoff singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning for the Padres, who managed just four hits.
LA starter Chad Billingsley (12-11) took the loss after giving up two runs on two hits in six innings with five walks and five strikeouts.
Andre Ethier drove in the only Los Angeles run.
