Posted on: Wednesday, 30 September 2009, 16:54 CDT

Charlie Morton's complete-game four-hitter Wednesday led Pittsburgh's 4-0 win over the Chicago Cubs in the first game of a day/night double-header.

Morton (5-9) threw 119 pitches with three walks and eight strikeouts in his first career shutout. He did not give up a hit until the third inning and never allowed a runner to advance past second base.

Pittsburgh scored its runs in the top of the first on a groundout by Steve Pearce, a two-run double by Jason Jaramillo and Brian Bixler's RBI single.

Lastings Milledge had two of the six hits for the Pirates, who have won four of six.

Ryan Theriot had three of the four hits for the Cubs, who have lost two of three.

Losing pitcher Ted Lilly (12-9) surrendered four runs and five hits in seven innings with two walks and eight strikeouts.
