MLB: Toronto 12, Boston 0
Roy Halladay threw a three-hitter and the Toronto Blue Jays produced 17 hits Wednesday in blasting Boston 12-0.
The Red Sox, even though they clinched the American League wild-card berth Tuesday, have lost six games in a row. Toronto has won six straight.
Randy Ruiz hit solo homers in the third and sixth innings. Lyle Overbay added a two-run blast in the third and Jose Bautista contributed a solo shot in the eighth.
It was the ninth complete game and fourth shutout of the season for Halladay (17-10), who threw 100 pitches and struck out six. He retired the first seven men he faced and did not allow a hit until the sixth, when Joey Gathright delivered a one-out single.
Tim Wakefield (11-5) took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits in three innings.
