Chris Carpenter hit a grand slam and drove in six runs Thursday while pitching St. Louis to a 13-0 rout of Cincinnati.
Carpenter’s first career homer gave the National League Central Division champions a 5-0 lead with one out in the top of the second inning. He added a two-run fifth-inning double.
Carpenter (17-4) surrendered three hits in five innings with a walk and six strikeouts.
Troy Glaus and Jason LaRue added two RBI apiece, and Yadier Molina and David Freese each drove in a run for the Cardinals, who stopped their three-game losing streak.
Adam Rosales had two of the five hits for the Reds, who have split their last four games.
The losing pitcher was starter Kip Wells (2-5).
