Petrovic, Olson lead on PGA Tour
Tim Petrovic and Leif Olson overcame miserable conditions to share the lead Thursday after one round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship.
Steady rains and temperatures in the 40s forced the players to break out their winter clothing in the first of the PGA Tour's Fall Series tournaments. The co-leaders each shot a 6-under 66 at the Atunyote Golf Club.
It was cold and it was raining, Petrovic said.
We didn't have the trifecta, though. The wind was down, which was the only thing that was saving us out there.
Additional rain is forecast throughout the weekend.
The Fall Series is designed for players trying to earn enough money to keep their PGA Tour cards for next year. Petrovic is 80th on the money list and is safe for next season. Olson, however, is ranked 214th and has a long way to go to make it into the top 125 who will keep their cards.
Matt Kuchar, John Senden and Vaughn Taylor shared third place at 67. Adam Scott, who has struggled this season but who will be on the International Team that will play in next week's Presidents Cup, was among those at 68.
Also at 68 was Nicholas Thompson, whose 14-year-old sister was in second place Thursday at the LPGA Tour event being played in Alabama.
