Paul Kariya scored twice and the St. Louis Blues came back from a two-goal deficit Friday to defeat Detroit 4-3 in their opening game of the season.

Jay McClement had a goal and an assist for the Blues, who scored three times late in the second period to take the lead. Chris Mason stopped 31 shots to get the win.
Chris Osgood allowed all four goals in 23 shots to suffer the loss. Detroit had the second best record in the Western Conference last year and came within one victory of capturing its second straight Stanley Cup. Pittsburgh won the last two games of the Stanley Cup Finals to stun the Red Wings.
