Davydenko, Verdasco win Malaysia semis
October 3, 2009
No. 1 Nikolay Davydenko and second-seeded Fernando Verdasco won Saturday’s semifinals at the Malaysian Open tennis tournament at Kuala Lumpur.
The Russian rallied to down third-seeded Robin Soderling of Sweden 1-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2. Verdasco was a 6-4, 7-5 victor against fourth-seeded Fernando Gonzalez of Chile.
I would love to win this tournament,
Davydenko said on the Association of Tennis Professionals Web site. I have the confidence to win, but every match is different.
Sunday’s Verdasco-Davydenko winner earns a $154,000 champion’s check.
(Nikolay) has beaten me more times than I have beaten him, but I hope I can play my best tennis and win the title,
Verdasco said.
