Freddy Garcia held Detroit to a run and six hits in seven innings Saturday in the 5-1 Chicago White Sox victory.


The loss dropped Detroit into a tie with Minnesota for first in the American League Central Division with only Sunday’s finale left in the regular season.


Garcia (3-4) threw 95 pitches with a walk and seven strikeouts in his best performance this season.


Relievers Tony Pena and Matt Thornton completed the seven-hitter.


Alex Rios led Chicago with four hits and three RBI.


One of two hits by Carlos Quentin was a second-inning solo homer, while Scott Podsednik added an RBI for the White Sox, who have split their last four games.


Placido Polanco led Detroit with two hits — one an eighth-inning RBI single.


Magglio Ordonez also had two hits for the Tigers, who had a three-game lead on Thursday.


The losing pitcher was starter Alfredo Figaro (2-2).
