Chivas USA capitalized on an own goal by Milos Kocic Saturday in a 2-0 Major League Soccer win over D.C. United.

The loss dealt a near-fatal blow to United’s hopes of securing a post-season playoff berth with two matches left in the regular season.

Kocic, United’s goalkeeper, was credited with a goal in the 32nd minute when a kick by Chivas USA forward bounced off the left post, then off the Kocic’s back.

Jesus Padilla scored in the 53rd minute for the Goats (12-9-5), who played to ties in their previous two games.

United (8-8-12) was playing its first outing without star goalkeeper Josh Wicks, who has been sidelined by a knee sprain and a dislocated shoulder, and has lost three in a row.

The loss also clinched a playoff spot for Los Angeles, a 1-0 winner over Chicago on Friday.
