Orioles’ Ponson arrested for drunken driving
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Sidney Ponson was arrested on a
drunken driving charge on Thursday, the latest in a series of
off-field problems for the Baltimore Orioles pitcher.
Ponson was stopped at 1:30 a.m. local time for tailgating
while entering Interstate 95 in Baltimore and was arrested for
failing a sobriety test, said Maryland Transportation Authority
spokeswoman Pamela Thorne.
The 28-year-old Ponson was charged with driving under the
influence and driving while impaired.
He was charged earlier this year with driving under the
influence in Florida and also spent 11 days in jail in his
native Aruba for fighting on a beach.
Ponson is on the disabled list with a strained right calf.
He has a 7-11 record this year with a 6.21 ERA.
