Barber cuts through Redskins to lead Giants rout

TORONTO (Reuters) - Tiki Barber rushed for a career-high 206 yards and a touchdown to lead the New York Giants to a 36-0 rout of the Washington Redskins in National Football League play in East Rutherford on Sunday.
The Giants allowed the Redskins just 125 yards of total offense, while having five sacks and forcing four turnovers in the dominating defensive effort.
New York (5-2) took over first place in the NFC East with the win, while the Redskins slipped to 4-3 one week after scoring 52 points in a game against the San Francisco 49ers.
It was the Giants first shutout in seven years, New York taking a 19-0 halftime lead and completing the rout with 17 more points in the third quarter.
Jay Feely kicked five field goals for the Giants, including two in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead, the second from 50 yards.
Brandon Jacobs scored on a three-yard run in the second quarter and Feely followed with another pair of field goals before the quarter ended, putting the Giants 19-0 ahead at the half.
Jeremy Shockey took a 10-yard TD pass from Eli Manning in the third quarter and another Feely field goal and a four-yard scoring run by Barber completed the rout.
The Giants had 19 first downs in the game compared to just seven by the Redskins.
Washington starting QB Mark Brunell went just 11-for-28 for 65 yards before being replaced in the third quarter.
Manning also struggled for the Giants, completing just 12 of his 31 passes for 146 yards, but New York piled up 262 yards of net rushing and moved the ball constantly during the game.
In Cincinnati, Carson Palmer threw three touchdown passes as the Bengals beat the Green Bay Packers 21-14.
Palmer went 22-for-34 for 237 yards as the Bengals survived a late Green Bay comeback attempt to improve to 6-2.
Rudi Johnson rushed for 72 yards for the Bengals.
Brett Favre had 279 yards in passing for the Packers, but he also threw five interceptions as Green Bay slipped to 1-6.
Favre went ahead of John Elway into second place in both the total passing yards and attempts in the game, but came up short on a last-series drive that could have resulted in the tying TD.
In Raleigh, Jake Delhomme threw for 341 yards and three touchdown passes as the Carolina Panthers beat the Minnesota Vikings 38-13.
Steve Smith caught 11 passes for a franchise-record 201 yards for the Panthers (5-2), who have won four straight games.
Stephen Davis added a pair of short rushing TDs to the Carolina attack.
Brad Johnson threw for 162 yards and one touchdown for the Vikings (2-5), who lost starting QB Daunte Culpepper with a strained left knee on the final play of the first quarter.
The struggling Vikings were totally overrun and trailed 24-0 at halftime.
In Houston, David Carr threw for 138 yards as the Texans beat the Cleveland Browns 19-16.
In St Louis, Jamie Martin threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns as the Rams beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-21.
In Irving, Texas, Drew Bledsoe threw for 220 yards and one touchdown pass to lead the Dallas Cowboys to a 34-13 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
In Nashville, Kerry Collins threw for 238 yards and three touchdown passes as the Oakland Raiders beat the Tennessee Titans 34-25.
In San Diego, Antonio Gates caught 10 passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Chargers past the Kansas City Chiefs 28-20.
In Baton Rouge, Olindo Mare kicked four field goals as the Miami Dolphins beat the New Orleans Saints 21-6.
In San Francisco, Joe Nedney kicked five field goals as the 49ers stunned the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 15-10.
In Denver, Jake Plummer passed for 309 yards and four touchdowns as the Broncos routed the Philadelphia Eagles 49-21.
In Detroit, Charles Tillman returned an interception 22 yards for a touchdown in overtime, leading the Chicago Bears to a 19-13 win over the Lions, allowing the 4-3 Bears to take over first place in the AFC North.
