Two Koreas agree to compete as single team at Games

November 1, 2005

SEOUL (Reuters) – North and South Korea have agreed to
compete as a single team for the first time at the 2006 Asian
Games and the 2008 Olympic Games, a South Korean official said
on Tuesday.

“We had discussed to make a single team since we made joint
marches in such international events for six times,” said Baek
Sung-il, a spokesman for South Korea’s Olympic Committee.

“As our exchange in South and North Korea has been
progressing, the mood was ripe for reaching such an agreement,”
he added.
