NEW YORK (Reuters) – Buddy Marucci, who lost to Tiger Woods
in the 1995 U.S. amateur championship final, has been named
captain of the 2007 U.S. Walker Cup team.

Marucci will lead the Americans against Britain and Ireland
from September 8-9 at Royal County Down in Newcastle, Northern
Ireland, the United States Golf Association said on Thursday.

“It’s a dream come true,” Marucci, a 53-year-old career
amateur who played in the 1995 and 1997 Walker Cups, said in a
statement.

“I have some big shoes to fill in following Bob Lewis. It’s
going to be a challenge, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Lewis captained the triumphant U.S. team which won back the
trophy from Britain and Ireland by 12- points to 11- at
Chicago Golf Club in August 2005.

Britain and Ireland had been bidding to win for an
unprecedented fourth successive time in the biennial amateur
team competition.
