Cleveland guard Hughes undergoes second operation on finger

February 14, 2006

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Cleveland Cavaliers guard Larry Hughes
underwent a second operation on his broken right middle finger
on Tuesday and will likely miss the rest of the regular season,
the National Basketball Association team said.

Hughes initially had surgery on January 6. and the injury
was originally expected to keep him out of action for six to
eight weeks.

“He could possibly be back and participate in the
post-season,” Cleveland general manager Danny Ferry told
reporters, adding that Hughes would need extra time to ensure
the finger healed properly.

Hughes has missed nearly 100 games due to injury over the
past five seasons.

He signed a five-year, $60 million contract in the
off-season. Hughes averages 16.2 points and 3.9 assists in the
28 games he has played this year.
