Lambiel unharmed despite heavy fall
TURIN (Reuters) – World champion Stephane Lambiel will be
fit to compete in the men’s free skate on Thursday despite
crashing to the ice during a training session at the Winter
Olympics on Wednesday.
“He fell while attempting the triple Axel but we took care
of it,” his coach Peter Gruetter told Reuters.
Lambiel injured his right knee two weeks ago and had raised
doubts about his ability to compete in the men’s competition.
The Swiss has often had problems with landing the triple
Axel and during Tuesday’s short program he only doubled it.
But Gruetter is confident Wednesday’s mishap will not
affect Lambiel, who lies third behind favorite Yevgeny
Plushenko of Russia and three-times American champion Johnny
“It was the same knee he injured again but we did some
physiotherapy and he is ok. The crash looked worse than it
was,” Gruetter said.
