NEW YORK (Reuters) - Miami Heat center Shaquille O'Neal has been fined $5,000 for a flagrant foul against Chicago forward Andres Nocioni.
The foul occurred with 2:23 remaining in the second period of the Heat's 85-84 win over the Bulls at the United Center in Chicago on Saturday.
O'Neal was hit with a flagrant foul penalty one for the infraction. This was upgraded to flagrant foul penalty two, NBA senior vice president Stu Jackson announced Monday.
Elsewhere in the NBA, the arbitrator has upheld the league's dismissal of Chris Andersen of the New Orleans Hornets for his violation of the league's anti-drug program.
Anderson and the NBA Players Association had filed a grievance challenging the penalty but it was rejected by arbitrator Calvin Sharpe.
The 6-foot-10, 228-pound Andersen was kicked out of the league on January 27.
