Mesa banned four games for throwing at Vizquel
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Major League Baseball has handed a
four-game suspension to Colorado Rockies pitcher Jose Mesa for
intentionally throwing at Omar Vizquel of the San Francisco
Mesa directed a pitch at the shortstop’s head during the
eighth inning of last Saturday’s game in Denver and the league
announced his ban on Friday.
Mesa has appealed his suspension and is available to play
for the Rockies this weekend against Florida before his appeal
Meanwhile, the league has fined Giants pitcher Matt Morris
an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing at Colorado’s
Matt Holliday in the first inning of last Sunday’s game between
the two teams.
Also fined was pitching coach Dave Righetti, who was
ejected at the same time and threw his pitch counter onto the
field and yelled at umpire Travis Reininger.
The amount of his fine was also not announced.
