EDMONTON, Alberta (Reuters) - Backup netminder Jussi Markkanen made 12 saves for the shutout as the Edmonton Oilers silenced the Carolina Hurricanes 4-0 on Saturday, sending the Stanley Cup final to a winner-take-all seventh game.
After trailing the best-of-seven series 3-1, the Oilers have rallied to level at 3-3 and can become the second team, and first since the Toronto Maple Leafs 64 years ago, to come back from such a deficit to lift the Cup with a Game Seven win on Monday in Raleigh.
After a scoreless opening period, the Oilers seized control in the second on goals from hometown hero Fernando Pisani, with his 13th of post-season and Raffi Torres.
Ryan Smyth and Shawn Horcoff put the contest out of reach with third period power play tallies.
Markkanen, who has been brilliant since replacing injured first choice netminder Dwayne Roloson in Game Two, was not overworked but sharp when called upon to earn his first playoff shutout.
