AT&T Expanding Wireless Coverage in Minnesota-Northern Plains; Investing More Than $53 Million This Year to Expand Wireless Network
Posted on: Tuesday, 17 July 2007, 12:02 CDT
BLOOMINGTON, Minn., July 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. has announced a $53 million investment to upgrade and improve wireless network services in 2007, in addition to adding 64 new cell sites in Minnesota and the Northern Plains region to expand coverage.
AT&T also will deliver dramatic changes in Minnesota and the Northern Plains region with the introduction of a 3G network in the fourth quarter of this year.
"We are accelerating the changes our customers see and experience in Minnesota, and that's as exciting for the company as it is for customers and employees," said Dave Fine, vice president and general manager for the Minnesota Northern Plains region. "Our goal is to ensure that AT&T customers have the very best wireless experience possible - which includes unmatched coverage and quality of service. We have been working hard for many years to enhance service for our customers and to provide the best value on calling plans and cutting-edge wireless devices."
An important addition to AT&T's wireless network is the launch of broadband 3G service in the Twin Cities in the fourth quarter of this year. This third-generation service will give Twin Cities customers access to high speed service for their laptops with the ability to access the Internet and work with e-mail from anywhere within the 3G network. Handset customers will have access to the latest entertainment, news and weather programming through AT&T Video and AT&T Music.
"We are constantly working to improve coverage and capacity. Based on feedback from our own testing, independent research, and, most importantly, customers, our wireless network performance has never been better," Fine said. "Recent drive test results show that no other carrier has fewer dropped calls nationwide than AT&T."
Nationally, over the past two years, AT&T has spent more than $16 billion in an aggressive program to upgrade and expand wireless service and to give customers access to approximately 45,000 cell sites - more than any other wireless carrier in the country.
