MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Silicon Graphics today announced it has earned a record eight top spots in the 2004 HPCwire Innovation Awards. The readers and editors of HPCwire, the journal of record for the high-performance computing industry, singled out SGI as the industry's most innovative HPC technology vendor, with awards for SGI(R) Altix(R) servers and supercomputers, SGI(R) InfiniteStorage solutions, and Silicon Graphics Prism(TM) visualization systems. In addition, HPCwire editors bestowed special honors on SGI's historic implementation with NASA and Intel of Columbia, the most powerful supercomputer in operation today.
HPCwire editors will present SGI with more awards than any other vendor -- including IBM, HP and Sun -- in ceremonies at the Supercomputing Conference 2004 Nov. 6-12 in Pittsburgh, PA.
SGI claimed five coveted Editor's Choice awards for 2004:
-- Most Innovative Hardware Technology
-- Most Innovative Implementation (NASA's Columbia Supercomputer

"SGI relentlessly pursues relevant innovations so that our customers can in turn do the same," said Dr. Eng Lim Goh, chief technology officer, SGI. "Earning a record eight HPCwire Innovation Awards culminates an eventful year in which we unveiled a new scalable Linux visualization system, made major inroads with our acclaimed SGI InfiniteStorage solutions, and worked with NASA and Intel to build and deploy the world's fastest 64-bit production supercomputer in only 15 weeks. We're grateful that HPCwire editors and readers have recognized and rewarded these efforts."
For this year's Readers Choice Awards, HPCwire polled a representative sample of its worldwide readership for its Readers Choice Awards, which allow those on the front lines of both commercial and academic high performance computing to offer their personal input on exactly where the cutting edge of technology lies. HPCwire Editors Choice awards were selected by a panel of luminaries.
