The social networking Web site Facebook has a new claim to fame — the creation of its first boy band, a British quartet of classical musicians.

The four, who met on Facebook and share a love of classical music, have signed an album deal with Universal, Britain’s Sunday Telegraph reported.

Stephen Bowman, 25, from Bath; Jules Knight, 25, from Sussex; Dominic Tighe, 24, from Devon; and Oliver Baines, 24, from Wiltshire; met through friends on Facebook. They quickly formed the band Blake, named after the poet William Blake.

They then tracked down Daniel Glatman — former boss of the boy band Blue –through the site, and he agreed to be their manager.

Several music acts have been launched on MySpace, Facebook’s rival. But Blake is the first for Facebook, the Telegraph said.
