Henkel Using Ipanema’s Application Traffic Management System to Optimize WAN Application Performance
Ipanema Technologies, the leader in application traffic management systems for wide-area networks (WANs), today announced that Henkel, the internationally recognized consumer products goods manufacturer, is using its Application Traffic Management System to control Henkel’s WAN in the EMEA Region (Europe, Middle East and Africa).
The company recently migrated from Frame Relay WAN to MPLS-WAN and was looking for a bandwidth optimization solution to support its critical applications such as SAP, Lotus Notes and Voice over IP. After analyzing various solutions, Henkel chose Ipanema’s Application Traffic Management System to optimize the new network and guarantee data compression and transparency into the network.
In addition to protecting individual user sessions, Henkel now has a detailed view of data traffic, precise bandwidth planning and better management of Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Henkel can also fine-tune the Ipanema solution to optimally adjust for application prioritization and reporting. The solution is operated by T-Systems, general contractor and service provider for information and communications technology (ICT).
Henkel is very pleased with the new optimization solution. According to Steffen Gelessus, system engineer, Henkel “the use of the Ipanema system is a genuine quantum leap for us. With its finely calibrated monitoring and reporting functions, we obtain a more detailed overview of network traffic and can thus plan our capacities precisely and optimize the network.”
The switch from the old Frame Relay WAN in Europe to the MPLS-WAN occurred in 2006 for technological and cost reasons. Henkel sought out a network management system to optimize the data compression and traffic control/prioritization in the changeover to the new technology. With Ipanema, Henkel can now control the network more efficiently and offer a Quality of Service with improved granularity for applications. The Ipanema system not only meets the company’s requirements but provides dynamic, application centric bandwidth optimization within MPLS to improve the allocation of applications to the individual service classes.
As one of the most internationally active German companies, Henkel’s products are sold into the Home Care, Personal Care, and Adhesives Technologies markets in 125 countries. 80 percent of more than 52,000 employees are employed abroad. The Henkel Corporate Network comprises approximately 400 sites worldwide; the EMEA region with its most important branches in Dusseldorf and several European capitals has approximately 255 sites.
