Cavium Networks Introduces Industry's First PCI-Express Security Accelerator Cards
Posted on: Monday, 8 November 2004, 09:00 CST
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Cavium Networks, the cost and performance leader in content and security processing, today announced NITROX XL NPX Security Accelerator Card family with PCI-Express connectivity in a standard PCI card form-factor, along with comprehensive software support. The NITROX XL NPX Family is the industry's first PCI-Express security accelerator board family for IPsec, SSL and WLAN security applications. It utilizes Cavium Networks' NITROX security processors to deliver industry-leading performance of 2.5 Gbps security processing and 28,000 RSA ops. The NITROX XL NPX solution is ideally suited to delivering gigabit-plus performance and significantly offloading the CPU for L4+ Switches, Load Balancers, Web Switches and VPN Appliances.
NITROX based PCI-Express Accelerator Family provides high performance, off-the-shelf solution
PCI Express is a next generation version of the widely deployed PCI, PCI-X buses that provides a standards-based, high bandwidth, low pin count, chip-to-chip interface for computing and communications platforms. PCI-Express provides a new architecture that utilizes multiple "lanes" or serial communication links in each direction with 2.5 Gbps bandwidth. Given its high bandwidth, early adopter markets for PCI-Express include storage and graphics systems. In the security equipment market, high-end security appliances and servers will be the first to integrate PCI-Express connectivity using off-the-shelf adaptors. Cavium Networks' NITROX XL NPX accelerators are ideally suited to meet the performance and bandwidth requirements for these applications. The NITROX XL NPX Family provides the industry's highest performance for PCI-Express based cards of up to 2.5 Gbps for IPsec or SSL protocol processing and 28,000 RSA operations per second for applications using SSL.
Rich product feature set for Security Appliances
The NITROX XL NPX Family is based on Cavium Networks NITROX Security Processors which are part of the world's fastest Security Processor Family. The product family has a very rich feature set that includes support for a broad range of symmetric encryption including DES, 3DES, AES (all modes up to 256 bit), CCMP and ARC4, as well as asymmetric encryption including RSA and Diffie Hellman. NITROX processors offload complete packet and protocol processing for IPsec, SSL and WLAN security to deliver the maximum possible CPU offload. The NPX Family includes a standard 4 lane PCI-Express interface that provides up to 10 Gbps bandwidth. In order to provide flexibility to customers, the family comes with or without DDR memory. "Cavium Networks NITROX security processors offer the industry's richest feature-set coupled with the widest connectivity using PCI, PCI-X, Hyper Transport, SPI-3 and SPI-4.2 interfaces," said Rajiv Khemani, Vice President of Marketing, Cavium Networks. "Now with the NITROX NPX Accelerator cards, Cavium Networks is first in delivering a compelling security processing solution for PCI-express based appliances and servers."
Comprehensive Solution with Leading Open-source and Third-Party Software Support
The Cavium Networks development kit for the NITROX XL NPX Family includes Linux and operating system independent drivers, debug utilities, APIs, and optimized open-source implementations of SSL and IPsec/IKE stacks with both IPv4 and IPv6 support. Additionally, commercially supported IPsec/SSL software stacks are available from Intoto, Safenet Quicksec and RSA Security. These software stacks provide customers a comprehensive and robust set of software options to enable rapid time to market.
Product Pricing and Availability
The NITROX XL NPX Family, with 2 board product options ranging in performance from 1.5Gbps to 2.5Gbps, and the development kit will be available in Q1 '05. Pricing for the product family ranges from $690 to $900 in 1KU quantities.
