Blue Ridge Networks High Assurance VPN Appliance Integrates Hifn Security Processor

Posted on: Monday, 8 November 2004, 09:00 CST

LOS GATOS, Calif., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Network security and flow classification market leader Hifn(TM) , announced today that the Blue Ridge Networks(TM) BorderGuard(TM) 5000 product suite features Hifn's HIPP 7855 security processor. The BorderGuard 5000 series builds upon the BorderGuard reputation for ironclad security and reliability.

The BorderGuard 5000 family offers a wide range of capacity models while preserving backwards compatibility with previous models of the highly regarded BorderGuard VPN product line. The BorderGuard 5000 offers strong cryptographic performance measured in hundreds of megabits per second. Gigabit Ethernet interfaces provide for physical layer compatibility where high-speed VPN features are required.

Like previous BorderGuard models, the BorderGuard 5000 includes an embedded RSA(R) public-key infrastructure (PKI) that will generate, exchange, and use digital certificates for all BorderGuard VPN authentication. Each BorderGuard has a unique non-replicable RSA public-key identity that provides VPN connection authentication far stronger than the shared secret authentication offered by other VPN products. Since the PKI is built in, there is no need for an expensive stand-alone PKI or digital certificate service.

"We are extremely pleased with Hifn's efforts around the HIPP 7855 -- especially when it comes to its implementation of the Advanced Encryption Standard, AES-256," said Tom Gilbert, Chief Technology Officer for Blue Ridge Networks. "Hifn's pioneering AES-256 work allows Blue Ridge Networks to lead the way in offering Defense and Civilian Agencies, as well as commercial customers, superb throughput and ultimate security over other VPN providers."

"AES-256 represents the state of the art algorithm where the highest level of security is paramount," says Glenn Haley, product line manager of Hifn, Inc. "Hifn's HIPP 7855 delivers full throughput and efficient acceleration of AES-256 in Blue Ridge's BorderGuard 5000."

Hifn's HIPP product family is backed by a suite of software options, including Hifn's Security Platform (HSP), which helps enable FIPS 140-2 compliance. Both HSP and Hifn's Software Development Kit (SDK) help customers reduce design cycle times and take products to market faster.

In production today, the HIPP 7855 is packaged in a 480-pin BGA configuration. The power requirement is 1.5 V core and 3.3V I/O, with 2.6W typical power consumption.
