Yahoo Japan to Pay Music Royalties for User-Uploaded Video Clips
Tokyo, July 24 (Jiji Press)–Yahoo Japan Corp. will pay copyright fees for music used for video clips uploaded on its Yahoo! Videocast site, President Masahiro Inoue said Tuesday.
Yahoo Japan has basically agreed with the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers, known as JASRAC, to pay royalties for the music, Inoue said at a press conference.
The move will enable users of Yahoo! Videocast to use music that is copyrighted for video clips they upload to the site.
Yahoo Japan, which launched the service in April, currently checks and deletes music used in uploaded video clips if it infringes copyrights.
Yahoo Japan is currently negotiating fees it will pay JASRAC, Inoue said.
Yahoo Japan intends to sign similar deals with recording companies to clear the way for Yahoo Videocast users to freely upload video clips with music.END
