SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Blue Coat Systems, Inc. , the leader in secure content and application delivery, today announced the company will provide a combination of Web acceleration and video optimization, together with Web security and bandwidth management, for the WiFi local area network ("WLAN") that will be available at the Third Annual San Jose Grand Prix. The San Jose Grand Prix, the largest sporting event in the city's history, will take place July 27th-29th on the streets of downtown San Jose.
Blue Coat(R) ProxySG(R) appliances will use video stream splitting and caching technologies to optimize the bandwidth used by Web users accessing the San Jose Grand Prix's WLAN. Live race footage from Web cameras will be fed directly to an Internet service provider, which will then stream the video over the Internet. The WLAN at the San Jose Grand prix will use Blue Coat appliances to optimize the delivery of this video to the WiFi users attending the event and enhance their viewing experience. As well, the Blue Coat appliances will offer malware and antivirus protection via its technology partner Kaspersky Labs to protect users using the WLAN.
"Blue Coat is seasoned in providing secure WAN optimization for high bandwidth applications," stated Bethany Mayer, senior vice president, Worldwide Marketing, Blue Coat. "The assistance provided to the San Jose Grand Prix illustrates Blue Coat's proven ability to deliver a combination of security, acceleration and control for live streaming media, thus enhancing the experience, as well as ensuring the integrity of other Web content for fans at the event."
"Video streaming is an important part of the appeal of the Grand Prix," said John Stuart, technical director, San Jose Grand Prix. "Because of our use of Blue Coat's ProxySG appliances, racing fans at the event will be able to enjoy secure and accelerated race coverage from various points around the race course while surfing from our on-site network."
Additionally, Blue Coat will donate $10,000 to the Canary Foundation, a charitable fund supported by the San Jose Grand Prix. The Canary Foundation is dedicated to the early detection of cancer. The chairman of Blue Coat's board of directors, Dave Hanna, will race in the Grand Prix's CXO Go-Kart event on Saturday, July 28th.
