DALLAS, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), today announced it has shipped two million lines of Voice-over-Cable (VoCable) worldwide to date. This significant milestone establishes TI as the cable Internet Protocol (IP) industry leader, offering complete VoCable platforms incorporating silicon and software. TI customers currently deploying the company's VoCable technology include market leaders ARRIS, Hitron, Bona Technologies and others.
According to a research report authored by Kinetic Strategies Inc., there will be 16.2 million cable IP telephony subscribers by 2009, resulting in $15 billion in new voice subscription revenues for cable operators. Kinetic Strategies also predicts 77 percent annual growth in voice-enabled cable modem equipment revenues during the same timeframe, leading to voice capability inclusion in more than 75 percent of all cable modems shipped by 2009.
"The VoCable market is set to explode over the next five years, and TI technology will help drive the global adoption of cable voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) services," said Michael Harris, founder and principal analyst, Kinetic Strategies. "TI has established itself as the top provider of VoCable platforms and is well-positioned to maintain that leadership, based on its full suite of broadband technology."
"Along with achieving certification at CableLabs and tComlabs, success in the VoCable market requires field proven software and hardware in order to pass the rigorous qualification testing at cable operators and to provide a high-quality, highly-reliable service to consumers," said Brett Butler, general manager, TI's broadband cable business unit. "Focusing on these areas with our customers and leveraging our industry-leading VoIP and cable modem technology, TI is able to achieve this significant milestone."
