PORTLAND, Ore., July 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Time Warner Telecom Inc. , a leading provider of managed voice and data networking solutions for businesses, today announced the successful installation of a broad-based metro Ethernet network at The Oregon Clinic in Portland. Under terms of the five year, $1.1 million contract, Clinic physicians and staff are now able to transfer medical records and images, as well as critical corporate information, instantly and securely between seven facilities and its new headquarters location. The Oregon Clinic is a multi-specialty medical practice with locations throughout the metropolitan Portland area.
"We are dedicated to providing superior care to our patients throughout the Portland area," said Lee McMillen, CIO at The Oregon Clinic. "Time Warner Telecom has helped us achieve our goal by providing us with the ability to share medical records and images, such as x-rays and CAT scans, among our physicians, staff and medical imaging providers securely and in real time."
Prior to this infrastructure upgrade, The Oregon Clinic used CD-ROMs, delivered by courier, to transfer data from location to location, which often took several hours. Now, the transfer of information is instantaneous, as The Oregon Clinic has a computer terminal in every exam room and a network designed to handle large files. Time Warner Telecom is delivering Ethernet services from 10 Mbps to 500 Mbps to support the clinic's network.
"By replacing The Oregon Clinic's existing legacy Frame Relay and T1 technology with our high capacity, fully secure metro Ethernet service, and upgrading several of their Ethernet connections from 100 Mbps to 500 Mbps, we are able to provide them with the reliability, speed and efficiency that is critical in a healthcare environment," said Jon Nicholson, vice president and general manager for Time Warner Telecom in Portland. "In addition to the vast improvement realized with the new solutions, these advancements in communications capabilities are achieved without drastic increases to their telecommunications budget."
