PhIMA to Hold Town Hall Meeting to Discuss Internet's Impact on Political Campaigns and Elections

The Philadelphia Interactive Marketing Association (PhIMA) announced today that it is hosting a Town Hall event titled, "Election '08: Can the Internet influence voters enough to determine the election?" The event, sponsored by ad network BlueLithium, will be held on August 9, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Independence Visitor Center ballroom.
In the wake of the recent YouTube-CNN debate, candidates are racing to the Web to identify new ways to empower their base of supporters and engage new audiences. Campaigns at the presidential, senatorial and gubernatorial levels are increasing their use of the Web to communicate platforms and ideals, as a way to reach the 70 percent of American households online.
Moderated by NBC 10 reporter and host of political forum show Live@Issue Steve Highsmith, an expert panel will examine how the world of politics has adapted to an increasingly tech-savvy environment. Bringing their insights to this exciting session are panelists J.J. Balaban, political consultant, The Campaign Group; Alex Urevick-Ackelsberg, blogger and political activist; Brian Donlen, Web consultant; Joe Weinlick, chief brand strategist/vice president, Brownstein Group; and Jonathan Karush, president and founder, Liberty Concepts. Panelists will also discuss the power of online strategies and how a candidate's ability to engage the Web's younger demographic -- traditionally apathetic to politics -- could drive significant numbers to the polls through the Web.
